The Royal Oak is a listed coaching inn, dating from the 17th Century. Situated in the peaceful Oxfordshire village of Ramsden, 5 miles from the busy market town of Witney, it is within easy reach of Oxford, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. The surrounding countryside is immediately accessible for walkers and there are several popular circular routes on which we can advise. The Royal Oak provides welcome sustenance however long the walk!

Built of Cotswold stone, the Royal Oak faces St James' Church and the War Memorial and is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike. Having been in the same ownership for nearly 30 years, the pub has built up a loyal band of regular customers. Many were brought along with their parents, for birthdays, Christmas and family celebrations and are now bringing their own offspring to enjoy the Royal Oak's famous food and welcoming atmosphere.
Following a serious fire in March 2015, the pub interior has been thoroughly restored, refurbished and redecorated. The character and intrinsic historic features - the oak beams, log fire and mellow stone walls - remain to ensure a warm, welcoming environment. We have also been able to improve the customer experience with features such as free WiFi now being available everywhere in the building (rather than as before in about two hotspots!), new cushions and carpets, lovely fresh paint throughout and exciting new dishes on the menu to tempt your taste buds.
The open bar area is ideal for informal eating and drinking and there is a separate dining room available for more formal occasions or for those who would like a quieter atmosphere. We recommend tables are booked for lunch and dinner if at all possible as there can be a demand for space, particularly at weekends. Please see our opening hours for details of when food is available and menu pages for details of our current 'Bar', 'A La Carte' and 'Dessert' menus. Look out too for the 'Chef's Specials', which will be changing frequently depending on seasonal availability and what has taken Jon's fancy on his daily shop.
To the rear of the main building and separated from it by a pretty, paved patio area (perfect for sitting out on warm days) are four self-contained bedrooms - ideal for the tourist or business traveller seeking a peaceful night's sleep away from the noise and bland anonymity of large, modern hotels.
The rooms were converted from the original outbuildings and stables and combine Cotswold stone walls and exposed timber beams with comfortable furnishings and modern conveniences such as en-suite facilities, colour TV and tea and coffee making equipment.
Twin and double rooms are available and full English breakfast, served in the restaurant, is included in the price of the room.
